Gluten free allergen marking on a menu

RESTAURANTS TO BE CAREFUL AT ON A GLUTEN FREE DIET

Date
Aug, 26, 2018

This is a shortlist of restaurants I have visited that is not recommendable if you are sensitive to gluten or on a strict gluten free diet. Being on this list does not imply that the restaurants are bad or have poor quality food. For someone without a food restriction they may be top of the notch. They are, however, listed here because of non-gluten friendly observances. The list is updated regularly, so feel free to come back to see if your destination is listed.

Granada, Spain

RestaurantCafe Bar Rabo de Nube
Observances: First of all, this restaurant places all the cutlery inside breadbaskets. Yes, you have to fish up your knife and fork from in between baguettes. Already cross contamination from the moment you sit down. Secondly, the allergy marking on their menu is incorrect and they know about it. I ordered the ox tail, which was not marked with gluten. When it was placed on the table, the ox tail was baked into bread. When I asked the staff about it, they immediately said “oh, sorry” and took it away.

Restaurant: Buen Gusto
Observances: The menu is not correctly allergen marked and the staff at the time of my visit had limited knowledge of what gluten is. Meal ordered contained soy sauce even though it was not marked on the menu for this ingredient. The food was good here, but I had to send back dishes due to ingredients that were not gluten free.
