If you are looking for a place to eat gluten free in Krakow, do not miss Pod Baranem. It is a little on the pricey side, but then again you have a 10 page part of the menu to choose dishes from. You can also leave your worries at the door as this place is certified by the Polish Celiac Association. I went here for the first time in 2018, then again in 2021. This is the updated review.
Details of Establishment:
Name: Restauracja Pod Baranem
Type: Restaurant
Location: Świętej Gertrudy 21, 31-049 Kraków
Tips: It is a busy restaurant, so you might want to book a table ahead of time.
Gluten free or not gluten free observations:
Item(s) ordered: Steak with mashed potato
GF observation: The menu used to have a separate 10 page section of gluten free dishes and desserts. Now they have simplified it and added allergen icons next to each dish. What is great about this place is that you can find traditional Polish snacks and dishes in gluten free versions. As the restaurant is certified by the Polish Celiac Association, you can be assured that the food is prepared properly and separately to avoid cross contamination.
Overall comment: I did not try the traditional Polish dishes, which I wish I did. You can even get gluten free pierogis here! A great place for gluten free food in Krakow – it has a good atmosphere as well!
