Krakow is a fascinating city in itself, but did you know that there are several sights worth checking out in the nearby surroundings? One of them being the Ogrodzieniec Castle.
Only discovered by chance (and a search on Google maps for interesting day trips from Krakow), I ended up on a little road trip to the ruins of the Ogrodzieniec castle. A little over an hours drive from Krakow you will find several parking lots with a walking path leading up to the castle. To my surprise, the castle grounds is quite big. As you pass the ticket office, you will find yourself admiring some spectacular rock formations (shaped like a snake) and the ruins themselves.
You can chose to do a guided tour or just walk around on your own. I chose the latter, and it was pretty easy to get around. The castle has a layout where you can only go in one direction, so you will not get lost. Eventually you will end up back where you started. Next to the ruins is a torture exhibition for those that would have the stomach for it.
