Gluten Free in Bangkok: Shrimp fishing

Date
Nov, 30, 2018

If you are looking to combine an activity with a meal, how about shrimp fishing (also referred to as prawn fishing)? All over Bangkok you can find these local eating places where you are permitted to fish your own shrimp. While it may look a little sad and feel a little bad, it seems to be a pastime that calls for reflection and meditation. With an hour passing by and only catching 1-2 shrimp, you really need to take your time and just go with the (lack of) flow. You pay per the hour for the fishing, can have the shrimp you fish prepared for you and can also order other dishes.

The mentioned shrimp pond may be a little out of the way if you are located in the city center, but you can google nearer ponds.

Details of Establishment:

Name: Charoen Nakhon 16 Shrimp Pond
Type
:  Shrimp pond / Restaurant
Location: 52 Thanon Krung Thon Buri, Khwaeng Khlong Ton Sai, Khet Khlong San, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10600, Bangkok, Thailand
Tips Make sure you have enough time as you will be fishing for a while.

Gluten free or not gluten free observations:

Item(s) ordered: Fried rice without soy sauce | Fished 1 shrimp | Fanta
GF observation: No allergen markings, you need to ask the staff what the ingredients are.

Overall comment: I did not go here to splurge, so I was content with the gluten free fried rice (of course, always a risk of cross contamination) and 1 hour of shrimp fishing.
