Gluten Free in Bangkok: May’s Garden House Restaurant

Date
Nov, 30, 2018

May’s Garden House Restaurant is the world’s first and (per today) only “My Neighbor Totoro” outside of Japan. It is licensed by Studio Ghibli, so it is has the seal of approval from the movie’s makers. Before heading to this restaurant, I messaged the owner on Facebook. I got a very lengthy response saying that they take allergies seriously and per now cannot guarantee a Celiac friendly cooking environment.

Details of Establishment:

Name: May’s Garden House Restaurant
Type
:  Cafè / Restaurant
Location: 18 Soi Lak Khet (Sukhumvit Soi 29) | Khlong Toei Nuea, Bangkok 10110, Thailand
Tips As a Celiac it is not a recommended place to eat, but go for the experience and a coffee.

Gluten free or not gluten free observations:

Item(s) ordered: Cafe latte with Totoro foam art
GF observation: Per management, the dishes here are not allergy safe. I was not even able to order ice cream when visiting.

Overall comment: It is a bit sad to not be able to eat anything here as some of the desserts look really spectacular. However,  if you are a Totoro fan it is worth a visit. At least the beverages are safe.

Disclaimer: The above is based on the personal experience and opinion of a Celiac traveler. For eating places, you should still inquire about the gluten free options and ingredients as recipes, kitchen routines, staff and management may have changed. This post is not sponsored.
