Gluten Free in Las Palmas: La Tasca de Lua

Date
Jan, 03, 2019

This is a restaurant located along a long strip of cozy looking eating places and. I sat down because I saw the menu specifically stated that there was a gluten free menu, but it turns out that this is in fact not the case. The meals are tasty, but note that it is a little pricey for the size of the portions.

Details of Establishment:

Name: La Tasca de Lua
Type
:  Restaurant
LocationCalle Ruiz de Alda, 35007 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas
Tips They add a little extra to the ambiance with live performances every Thursday.

Gluten free or not gluten free observations:

Item(s) ordered: Pork strips with wedged potatoes and grilled bell pepper
GF observation: The menu is not allergen marked. In fact, it states that there is a separate menu for gluten free options, but you need to rely on the waiter or owner to get the gluten free dishes explained. When I asked, the staff did not bother to go through each item but rather pointed out some and said that there are many more options. Thus leaving me to ask again upon ordering. With that said, the person asked knew very well which dishes were gluten free.

Celiac safety: This is not a gluten free establishment, so cross contamination could be a risk. Be careful what you order if you are Celiac as you are also depend on the guidance from the staff. Also, when the meals came I received the gluten meal of my boyfriend and he mine, which could have been a catastrophe if we had not noticed (our dishes were very similar).

Overall comment: The restaurant is nice and the ambiance likewise. No allergen marking on the menu, so you are reliant upon the staff to know the menu very well. I felt safe with the recommendations of the owner herself when it came to gluten free dishes, but initially did not feel my allergen concerns were taken too seriously.

Disclaimer: The above is based on the personal experience and opinion of a Celiac traveler. For eating places, you should still inquire about the gluten free options and ingredients as recipes, kitchen routines, staff and management may have changed. Only places marked “100% Celiac safe” are confirmed free from cross contamination. This post is not sponsored.
