Chipotle is an American chain of fast casual restaurants across the US (and other countries). It serves Mexican food and, good news, only one item on the menu contains gluten (the flour tortilla). This means that it is a great place to find cheap, gluten free fast food.
Details of Establishment:
Name: Chipotle
Type: Restaurant
Location: Across the US in most major cities (click to find a chain near you)
Tips: Inform that you are Celiac to ensure new gloves are used
Gluten free or not gluten free observations:
Item(s) ordered: Taco bowl
GF observation: The menu is not allergen marked, but you can find allergen information on their website. Only the flour tortilla contains gluten.
Celiac safety: This is not a 100% gluten free establishment. Therefore, you need to be careful when it comes to cross contamination. Inform the staff if you have Celiac disease. On their website, Chipotle writes: “If you avoid gluten, don’t eat our flour tortillas. If you are highly sensitive to gluten and would like us to change our gloves, just let us know at the start of your order. You should be aware items containing corn, including corn tortillas (chips and crispy corn tortillas) and corn salsa, may have trace amounts of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field.”
Overall comment: A decent place to get a cheap, fast and plentiful meal. The servings are large and you can add guacamole and sour cream to your order to add more flavors (and calories).
Disclaimer: The above is based on the personal experience and opinion of a Celiac traveler. For eating places, you should still inquire about the gluten free options and ingredients as recipes, kitchen routines, staff and management may have changed. Only places marked “100% Celiac safe” are confirmed free from cross contamination. This post is not sponsored.
