Fort Funston

Sightseeing: Fort Funston

Fort Funston is a military installation in San Francisco, but, more importantly, it is also a beautiful national park and beach area. This is a great area for a stroll, a hike, exploration, a little picnic or walking your dog. If you love dogs as much as I do, this will definitely become one of your favorite places in San Francisco.

A tip: It can be quite windy, so hold on to your hats and preferably wear sunglasses to avoid getting sand in your eyes. Even though the weather may be great, you should also bring a light jacket as a windbreaker.

It is so windy that there is actually a hang glider jumping spot, and if you are lucky you will be able to catch some hang gliders as they jump into the wind.

Here are some snaps of what to expect:

Want to visit Fort Funston?

It is free to visit and you can get there by taking the bus. Depending on your location in San Francisco, it may be between 1-3 buses required, but you will only need to get one bus ticket ($2 if you use the app). Uber and Lyft is also an option, but would be costlier. If you are planning on taking a road trip down highway 1, Fort Funston is on the way and it definitely worth a visit if you have the time.
