Gluten Free in Norway: McDonald’s

Date
Oct, 23, 2018

Norway is one of the countries in the world with the highest density of Celiac disease, and thus you will be in a great country to find gluten free meals. If you just need a quick bite, you can get gluten free burgers at every Norwegian McDonald’s.

Details of Establishment:

Name: McDonalds
Type
:  Restaurant
Location: In every Norwegian city
Tips:  Check that your bun comes in a “gluten free” wrapping.

Gluten free or not gluten free observations:

Item(s) ordered: Double cheeseburger
GF observation: You can get any burger on the menu in a gluten free bun and the buns taste amazing. Every gluten free order is wrapped in a gluten free marked wrapping to make sure you get the right order. Cross contamination can, of course, always occur, but there are official routines for gluten free orders.

Overall comment: As a native Norwegian, I have tasted the evolution of the McDonalds bun in Norway. It used to taste like rubber, while it now actually tastes like a normal hamburger bun.

Please ensure to always check with all establishments about their gluten free options and if they are Celiac safe as recipes, kitchen routines, staff and management may change. Remember that gluten free options do not guarantee there will be no cross contamination unless the kitchen can confirm this. All places have been visited on own initiative and are not sponsored in any way.
