Gluten Free in Bangkok: Theera

Date

Finding a gluten free cafe in Bangkok is a major hassle, to say the least, and finding a any gluten free goods is almost like a fairy tale. But then there was Theera! If you are craving for some gluten free waffles, cakes and pancakes – well, this might be your savior. If you are more in the mood for breakfast or even lunch, Theera also serves breakfast and lunch dishes.

Please note that even though the first page of their menu explains how they replace wheat with gluten free flours, their menu is in fact not completely without flour. This is a little deceiving, since you may think it is 100% Celiac safe. However, based on read-ups online the owner’s own son suffers from allergies, so cross-contamination is taken very seriously. Based on my own experience, and others on Tripadvisor, I have not seen that anyone has gotten sick from this.

Details of Establishment:

Name: Theera Healthy Bakeroom
Type
:  Cafe / Bakery
Location67/9-10 Sukhumvit 42 Alley, Khwaeng Phra Khanong, Khet Khlong Toei, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110, Bangkok, Thailand
Tips:  The cafe is a bit of a walk down a street from the BTS. When you think you are on the wrong path, just keep going a little longer 🙂

Gluten free or not gluten free observations:

Item(s) ordered: Gluten free “Dreamy Strawberry” waffles | Sea Salt Iced Coffee
GF observation: The menu is marked with allergens and every item on the many actually explains which dishes have gluten, lactose etc. However, you need to be very careful when you order because many of the items you need to specify that you want the gluten free version. The staff speak very limited English, so you also need to be extra clear on that to get the right order.

Overall comment: The cafe has some real goodies when it comes to gluten free bakery items, and the waffle I had tasted really good (like a normal gluten containing waffles). Even though it is a little out of the way, I would recommend a visit here.
