You may not recall the name of the city, but there is a high probability you have seen pictures of it on instagram or beautiful photo compilations on Facebook. Why? It has a highly memorable and remarkable bridge that will make you feel you are going back in time. While the bridge is truly spectacular, the city or Ronda has so much more to offer.
Here is some of what awaits you:
1. Puente Nuevo – the spectacular bridge
The current bridge was completed 1793 and is the connecting point of the old and new town. You can walk across the bridge, along it/under it and inside it. If you follow the pathway leading down the alley, you can admire the bridge from afar.
2. The serene surroundings
There is no denying it, the surroundings of the bridge and other viewpoints in Ronda leave little more to be desired.
3. The city center
The city of Ronda is separated into an old and a new town, both beautiful and worth checking out. The interesting thing about the city is that when you think you have seen everything, the city just keeps on going and providing you with more historical sites and great cuisine.
4. Plaza de Toros
Love it or hate it (for me it is the latter), the modern day bullfighting can be traced back to Ronda. The bull ring in the city, Plaza de Toros, was inaugurated in 1785, making it one of the oldest in Spain.
5. Cultural events
You can easily stumble upon cultural events and experiences – such as the below unexpected gem of a local jazz festival.
6. Gluten free meals
Many of the restaurants are fully aware of what gluten is. While most menus are not allergen marked, you can expect to be guided through the menu or be told to go somewhere else if cross-contamination cannot be avoided.
If you visit Spain, do not let the opportunity pass you by to visit historical and charming Ronda. Take in the beautiful scenery, explore the old and new towns, enjoy memorable gluten free dishes and bask in the sun with a glass of sangria. Ronda is a town you will never forget!
