Have you ever heard of the city of Solvang? Well, I am Scandinavian and neither have I. Apparently, this charming little city is the Danish capital of America. If you have ever been to Denmark, you will definitely feel like you are transported back to Scandinavia when you arrive.
The architecture is like nothing you will see elsewhere in the US, the names of streets and shops are Danish, there are a couple of windmills around the city, and much of the cuisine is Danish inspired. It almost feels like the city is not real, like you are in an amusement park.

The Elverhøj Museum of History & Art explores the city’s Danish heritage through personal stories and photographs. The Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum exhibits dozens of classic American, Japanese and European motorbikes. The Old Mission Santa Inés is an early-1800s Franciscan church.”
Want to visit Solvang?
If you are doing a road trip down Highway 1, you could do a little detour to see the city while on the road. If not, you can also easily get there by car if you are staying in Santa Barbara or even Los Angeles.
