100 % Gluten Free

Eating gluten free in Las Palmas is fortunately not as hard as you might fear. The city has two completely gluten free gems you should check out. That means no worry about cross contamination!

RESTAURANTE 18

Gluten free food at Restaurante 18

Located at the end of a busy side street in Vegueta, you will find this gem of a 100% gluten free restaurant. Order anything you like – at an affordable cost even. I ordered so much I had to bring some to go. Read more here.

EL OBRADOR

Display at El Obrado gluten free bakery in Las Palmas

This is a Celiac heaven – a 100% gluten free bakery in Las Palmas! You can choose between a variety of pastries as well as different types of sandwiches. If you have additional allergens, these are marked on the menu. The menu itself is not marked with gluten allergens because, as it also states, everything is gluten free. Read more here.

Places with Gluten Free Options on the Menu

These are places that have “GLUTEN FREE” marked specifically on their menus, either in a separate section or through allergen marking. (Always keep in mind that cross contamination could be a risk for Celiacs at any establishment that is not 100% Celiac friendly).

SAN ANDREA

Gluten free Pasta at San Andrea

The restaurant is cozy and intimate, and you feel well taken care of. There is a separated gluten free section on the menu which is great. Ensure to inform the staff you are Celiac. Read more here.

LLÉVAME AL HUERTO

Food at Llévame al huerto

The menu is allergen marked, including dishes that do not contain gluten. You have a great selection to chose from as a big portion of the dishes are naturally gluten free or can be made gluten free upon request. Read more about the cafe here.

TASCA LA LONJA

Gluten free paella in las palmas

A lovely little restaurant with a big heart. The staff was very polite and attentive, and the food was very good! If you are craving for gluten free paella in Las Palmas, this is absolutely a place to try out. Request for their allergen menu. Read more about the restaurant here.

LA CABAÑA CRIOLLA

Steak at La Cabaña Criolla

A little pricey, but well worth it when it comes to taste. Allergen overview on the wall could be made easier to understand, but luckily the staff also know what is safe to eat. Read more about the restaurant here.

200 GRAMOS CICER

200 gramos Cicer burger

This is a hip place with cool interior design. The gluten free bun was surprisingly tasty and the burger itself is grilled over charcoal. You do need to be careful, though, as the menu is not allergen marked and gluten free bun does not guarantee gluten free sauces. Always double check. Read more about it here.

AJI LIMÓN Y CANELA

peruvian gluten free in las palmas

The restaurant is nice and the ambiance likewise. Not too many options to choose between, but the grilled fish is for instance a safe, tasty and cheap gluten free option. The menu is allergen marked. Read more here.

SMÖOY

smöoy gluten free frozen yoghurt las palmas

A healthy (at least compared to regular ice cream) option on a warm day. The frozen yogurt itself is gluten free. Make sure to check which toppings are gluten free as well. Read more here.

HELADERIA PEÑA LA VIEJA

gluten free ice cream at Heladeria Peña la Vieja

Craving for something cold on a warm day? How about some gluten free ice cream? At this ice cream shop you will find a great number of gluten free flavors available. Look at the allergen menu to see what flavors you can have (be careful with scooper cross contamination). Read more here.

LLAOLLAO LAS CANTERAS

llaollao Las Canteras ice cream

There is no allergen marking and you need to ask the staff what is gluten free. The regular frozen yogurt they serve is naturally gluten free, but stay away from any of the “Lotus” labelled yogurts as they apparently contain gluten Also note that all the toppings are not gluten free, so you need to ask the staff. Read more here.

OTHER PLACES

These are places I have not been able to try/visit, but that market themselves as gluten free friendly. As I have not eaten at these places, I cannot comment on how gluten free friendly they might be or not be. Always confirm with the establishment:

  • Cafetería del Real – they have a sign that says they have Celiac friendly breakfast. However, when I went there there was nothing on their menu that was stated as gluten free nor Celiac friendly. The menu had allergen marks but only on beverages.
  • Ristorante Pizzería Al Maccaroni – they have a sign outside that says they are Celiac friendly. Apparently they have gluten free pasta and pizzas.
  • Restaurante Molinet – they apparently have gluten free pizza and paella.
  • O’sole Mío La Casa Roja – they have a gluten free sign but apparently only pasta is gluten free here. Do note that this place has overall poor ratings online.

Places with Gluten Free Products

At these places you can find gluten free grocery items – just for snacking or for cooking yourself a deliciously gluten free meal.

CARREFOUR GROCERY

Carrefour gluten free section in Las Palmas

If you are looking for gluten free groceries in Las Palmas, Carrefour is both affordable and has a great selection of products. You will find it inside the Las Arenas mall at the end of the beach strip. Read more about the place here.

HIPERDINO and SPAR

The grocery chain HiperDino has not only a dedicated gluten free section, but they have marked all of their price labels black if the product is gluten free. This means you can just look at the price to see if it is gluten free. Do note that I have noticed that many naturally gluten free items lack the black price label, but this I assume is because the product does not specifically say “sin gluten” on the product.

The grocery chain Spar has different sized gluten free sections in their stores. Not the biggest selection, but they all seem to have gluten free bread, beer and cereal.

Final notes

These are just some of the many places offering gluten free meals in Las Palmas. Good luck finding some secret gems of your own on your adventure!
