100 % Gluten Free
Unfortunately, there are no 100% gluten free places in Bangkok. I searched high and low, both online and in the city itself, but could not find a single such place. If you do come across one, do let me know!
Places with Gluten Free Options on the Menu
These are places that have “GLUTEN FREE” marked specifically on their menus.
THEERA
The cafe has some real goodies when it comes to gluten free bakery items, and the waffle I had tasted really good (like a normal gluten containing waffles). Even though it is a little out of the way, I would recommend a visit. Read more about the cafe here.
SUANANDA VEGETARIAN GARDEN & AYURVEDA
The restaurant has a lot of gluten free options that you can easily find on the allergen marked menu. Personally I found the dishes to be a bit small for the pricing, but it is nonetheless a gluten free option when feeling hungry in Bangkok’s Surasak area. Read more about the restaurant here.
MASSILIA
This is a very nice (but very expensive) restaurant. Staff is polite and knowledgeable. They have a gluten free menu, but they also say they cannot guarantee that the toppings for the gluten free pizzas and pastas are Celiac safe. I am not sure if they say that they cannot guarantee gluten free toppings to be on the safe side, but it should not be too hard for a restaurant to figure out the ingredients of their own dishes. Read more about the restaurant here.
COFFEE BEANS BY DAO
This is not a restaurant but a cafe. While you are not able to eat any of the fresh bakery goods on a gluten free diet, you do have several options of cookies, chocolate goodies, cake and pudding. These options are clearly marked “gluten free”. Read more about it here.
Places with Gluten Free Options when you Ask
At these places I was helped in finding dishes that were naturally gluten free or the establishment changed their ingredients for me to make a dish gluten free. Note that cross contamination could be a risk for Celiacs.
THIP SAMAI
A place with a reputation for excellent Pad Thai. A great find when you doubt if the ingredients used are actually gluten free. This place uses a certified gluten free sauce for your peace of mind. Read more about the place here.
QUEEN OF CURRY
Queen of Curry seems to be a popular place among tourists for curry in Bangkok, and it is understandable why. It is one of very few Thai restaurants I have come across where someone in the staff speaks very good English – and they even serve wine. This restaurant has an extensive menu of Thai dishes, but you can expect that the dishes are “dulled down” for Western pallets. Also, note that while Indian curries are more or less gluten free by default, Thai curries are not. Read more about the place here.
GRILLED SEAFOOD
This restaurant probably has a much more inspirational name in Thai, but on Google Maps it is simply called “Grilled Seafood”. When you are craving for a local restaurant with gluten free options, check out this place. This is one of those places where you will hardly see any foreigners, one of those places with few reviews on social media simply because it is not widely known about. If you are looking for great service and superb seafood, this is it! Read more about the place here.
MAKE ME MANGO
Do you like mango ice cream and mango sticky rice? Who am I kidding, of course you do! It is an amazing sweet treat, and the best part is that it most of the time is gluten free. One place to get a good gluten free mango sticky rice is at Make Me Mango. Read more about the place here.
SIM SUKI
Hotpot is normally a safe bet when going gluten free since it is fresh ingredients and meats. The tricky part, though, is in how the cooking broth is made. At Sim Suki ALL of the broth options on the menu contain gluten, but they are happy to make you a gluten free hotpot vegetable broth. Read more about the place here.
Gluten Free Cooking Class
COURAGEOUS KITCHEN
Courageous Kitchen offers a cooking class in their own vicinity in the suburbs of Bangkok. By informing them in advance, they will adapt the dishes according to your need. When going to the market, you will get a gluten free treat and while cooking there will be gluten free ingredients. And the best part? This is a cooking class in Bangkok that serves a greater purpose. Click here to read more.
